is cstimated at $70 pcr sq.ft. It is Crown Land and has for

many years boon used by Gevornmont as a parking ground for

Sanitary Department bullock carts and motor lorries. Tho

Commissioners are at a loss to understand how such a state of

affairs has boon allowed to continuo. Tho land should either

be sold, or olse dovolopod as a fruit and vagotable market, which is greatly needed in this district of the city, and

which would bring in/considerable revenue. Should a market bo constructed attention should be paid to the most oconomie uso of the ground by orocting a building of more than ono storoy. 310

FEES AT BRITISH SCHOOLS. Proportionately to other Government schools the schools for British children are very costly to run. The classes are small and the teaching staff, wholly recruited in England, oxponsive. The Commissioners thorofore suggest that the Board of Education and the Government should consider the question of raising the foos of thoso schools and placing them on a storling basis.

STAUGHTER HOUSES AT KENNEDY TOWN. When the slaughter houses were originally orocted at Kennedy Town, that district was well outside the residential area of the city. But, as tho Colony is steadily oxpanding, and, but for the fact of tho slaughter houses being situated there, Kennedy Town might become residential (with tho consoquent bonofit to the Government's

vonuo from Crown Rent, promia on land sales and annual rates), the Government might consider it advisablo to secure the romova 1 of the slaughter housos to another sito. Admittedly it is not easy to indicato a suitable alternate site on the Island, but if the Government considered the removal advisable the question
